Spiritual Clothing

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Col. 3:12-14 NIV

Every once and a while I come upon a verse(s) in the Word that though not a first time reading, certainly has the feeling, even the thrill of a “first time” experience. A refreshing, a hope, a childlike desire to at least for a day, be like God must be. Such was this verse this morning.

Now its time to take a shower and get dressed…the practical side of life. Will I now allow this reading to be reflected in the spiritual garments observed by others throughout my day?

Reflecting on my own leadership this week as Mayor, in my discussions and interactions with others, as we planned for the future of our community have I truly lived this way?  Was I clothed by my faith in a manner that Christ was seen in me?

This is the challenge of our walk as Christ-followers. God help that my life would go deeper than just reading His words, but that those words would truly become the clothing that I wear; setting an environment of love within this city, our county or nation. I guess that’s what bringing His Kingdom to the Earth is all about?

Through grace, we have control over our own life’s sphere.  Individually, we daily determine our dress, providing evidence of His Kingdom as we are observed throughout the day…bringing salt and light!

Lord, clothe me in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness…the garments of God.
